Overview

Nicotinamide mononucleotide (NMN) is made from the vitamin B3 family, which also includes niacin and niacinamide. NMN is sometimes used as medicine.

NMN is also found in very small amounts in some fruits, vegetables, meat, and milk. In the body, NMN is changed to a chemical called NAD+. The body needs NAD+ to work properly. Levels of NAD+ fall as a person gets older. Low levels can cause health problems.

People sometimes use NMN for aging, athletic performance, obesity, and many other conditions, but there is no good scientific evidence to support these uses.

Don't confuse NMN with niacin, niacinamide, NAD, NAD+, NADH, or nicotinamide riboside. These are related but are not the same.
